Rufus Phillips

Truth to Power. Well known to Vietnam Veterans for Factual History, Phillips, a protégé of Edwards Lansdale recognized Vietnam was a political war winnable by the South Vietnamese and saw Diem as an imperfect, but effective leader. Phillips opposed coup of Diem and saw strategic hamlets as a promising program. He also, with Australian COL "Ted" Serong, sold Diem on the Cheiu Hoi Program. Rufus is the author of Why Vietnam Matters, a memoir about the early years of U.S. presence in Vietnam.

This is a "stump" essay which will be revisited when time permits.
